De Luchtclub

De Luchtclub

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands

Description: De Luchtclub (" English: The Air Club" ) is an initiative of the City of Rotterdam. By allowing Rotterdammers to measure PM2,5 themselves, the municipality and residents gain more insight into local air quality which can be a basis for further discussion, workshops and insights. With this project teh regional environmental agency is also investigating whether cheaper sensors are as reliable as more expensive equipment.

Air-Break – Co-producing healthy clean commuting air spots in town

Air-Break – Co-producing healthy clean commuting air spots in town

Location: Ferrara, Italy

Description: Air-Break set the ambitious goal of reducing air-pollution by 25% in the most critical areas of the city. The project will tackle air-quality issues through a set of integrated actions along four core strategic fields: Nature-Based Solutions, with the plantation of phyto-absorbing species; Infrastructural upgrades for sustainable mobility. Technological equipment, with the deployment of air-quality monitoring stations, as well as of innovative digital services and gamification applications, towards the incentivisation of environmentally friendly behaviours; Awareness-raising and stakeholders’ engagement

Municipal air quality monitoring network in Rumia

Municipal air quality monitoring network in Rumia

Location: Rumia, Poland

Description: Rumia municipality purchased five devices for continuous, automatic measurement of PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 dust concentrations. Thanks to this, a municipal air quality monitoring network was created, and the obtained results are publicly available on an interactive map. The goal is to allow any interested parties (mainly citizens) to follow the current air quality in the city and to raise awareness in this regard.

#LesChercheursDair

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Description: What is the quality of the air we breathe in Brussels? In order to answer this question, we conducted a collaborative science campaign for 12 months, from October 2020 to October 2021, to measure nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations throughout Brussels. This is the first time in Europe that such a project has been carried out over such a long period.

MeetMeeMechelen

MeetMeeMechelen

Location: Mol, Belgium

Description: Citizen observatory Meet Mee Mechelen aims to gather and share data on air quality and urban noise and improve the dialogue between citizens and decision makers on the local living environment, specifically on air quality and noise. This Citizen Observatory was set up with the help of the Ground Truth 2.0 project. The Ground Truth 2.0 project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No.689744 and finished in 2019.

Measurements and perceptions of air quality

Measurements and perceptions of air quality

Location: Paris, France

Description: The aim of the project is to improve knowledge of the levels of pollution at the heart of traffic, while testing a new network of measurements, and to understand the perception of Ile-de-France residents with regard to air quality. These innovations will make it possible to raise awareness of air quality in Ile-de-France, and ultimately to identify the levers of commitment of Ile-de-France residents to reduce air pollution.

Measure Together (Samen Meten)

Measure Together (Samen Meten)

Location: Utrecht, Netherlands

Description: Samen Meten is an infrastructure for data and knowledge sharing for citizen scientists interested in air quality. We provide a platform where citizens can find their own data and the data of others. In addition, the data can be analysed via the 'Analyse together tool'. New citizen scientists can also find information on how and where to start measuring air quality. Currently also data on noise and water quality is added.

H2020 SOCIO-BEE

H2020 SOCIO-BEE

Location: Bilbao, Spain

Description: The H2020 SOCIO-BEE project aims to encourage citizens to take an active role in the fight against climate change through citizen science using disruptive technologies such as drones and wearables articulated by a framework called AcadeMe. More specifically, Socio-Bee aims to involve different segments of citizens (young people under 16 years of age, older adults over 65 years, and people who commute by car or through public transport in large cities or suburbs) in different scientific endeavors..

COMPAIR: Community Observation Measurement & Participation in AIR Science

COMPAIR: Community Observation Measurement & Participation in AIR Science

Location: London, United Kingdom

Description: The COMPAIR innovation project is designed to bolster citizens' capacity to monitor, understand, and change their environmental impact, both at a behavioural and policy level. It unlocks the power of the wider public, including people from lower-socio economic groups, to provide broad granular data around a central theme of air quality, complementing and improving the quality of official datasets and making new information useful for helping to meet environmental aims.

Snuffelfiets (Snifferbike)

Snuffelfiets (Snifferbike)

Location: Handeslweg, Netherlands

Description:Youngsters, adults, retired people, or professional riders: They are interested in the air quality on their routes. Cyclists use the sensor and app; they build up knowledge of their routes and can choose the healthiest commute. This data is stored in the cloud, which makes data analysis possible for researchers and governmental agencies. The Snifferbike is interesting on various levels: it acts as a source of knowledge for participants and on a macroscale for governing bodies and research agencies.
